It?s my birthday in another fortnight?s time. It doesn?t seem possible. Time flies, indeed! I can vividly remember my last birthday party and soon it will be time to throw another. I have been living in this world for almost 22 years. Even the thought makes me feel philosophical and you won?t believe the profound thoughts that are running through my head. So, I decided to celebrate my last few days as a 21 year old by writing an immortal article.

I soon realized that the topic isn?t easy to choose. Being an engineer, I first thought of writing about a technology related article. But then, out of the blue - inspiration struck and I decided to write about something that I really, really marvel about. Something that makes even day-to-day living interesting and mundane matters seem positively scintillating. That special ?something? is the people.

Yes, the people. We are all so similar and yet poles apart. Same physically but our conscience, the people within us deep down which gives each individual his identity is different. The warmth, the depth, the perception, the courage of a human being, of a person, of people, of us all is the thing that astonishes me.

We may think that we know a person well but a turn of events and we find a new facet of the same person that leaves us breathless! Such capacity of doing what we like, what we truly feel, really believe in, is what makes us different. It?s like a kaleidoscope. A different twist brings forth a different facet which makes us special, to be cherished, to be understood and respected.

If only we can incorporate this principle in our lives. What an amazing change that will bring! No more wars. No more fighting. Peace will prevail and each of us will have our own personal Utopia. However, it?s just a pipe dream. A world like this cannot exist. After all, we all are animals and our basic nature erupts with the slightest provocation. But we can control all this. That is why people, are extraordinary.

We cannot cure the world wholly because we cannot contemplate living in an idyllic world. In any case, what is heaven for!? However I know that a little understanding, a little care and consideration, a little appreciation will go a long way in, to repeat a much clich?d phrase, a better place to live in. Eventually that is exactly what we want for our children. Let?s think of ourselves first, and for a better tomorrow, improve our today. All it takes is a small amount of tolerance and respect. And we are perfectly equipped to do that with - a miracle called people and all enduring love!

Oh yes! People astound me and I adore them.
