You are right nisha.
I am member of shaadi and searchsaathi.com. Been interacting with a few people. Seems to be tough to find a good match. But I am optimistic. Atleast these websites allow us to choose.

I think, sites like Shaadi.com are essential due to the social paradigm shift in India. Earlier there were joint families and people knew each other. Career/education issues were not very critical. As more women started getting educated and entering careers, their expectations naturally changed. Now marriage decisions cannot be forced on to a son or daughter by parents. Moreover, due to globalization, many eligible bachelors/bachelorettes are residing outside India. Eevn in India, families have become nuclear. So the chances of finding a match by traditional methods have drastically reduced. Matrimonial websites merely work as liasons to make contacts. The process after that depends entirely on the two persons and their families. Even I have put my profile on matrimonial sites. It is difficult to find a match that satisfies the intersection of my and my parents expectations. But the websites at least offer a channel. I am sure that quite reasonable people put their profiles there. There are many who get introduced through websites and eventually get married. I think, these sites should be considered just as a tool in addition to other avenues to find your life partner. Optimism doesn't kill ;-)

I think it is worth becoming a member of such site. My sister got married thru this site and found a wonderful match for herself. It took a while for her to find her match but it was worth it.

I know many friends who have found their soul mate by matrimonial websites. Look at it this way, it's another option and possibility to meet your significant other. If you want to marry an Indian person it's a great source to potentially meet that person. It's not easy finding your "right" soul mate anymore. Hopefully parents and friends can help but these matrimonial sites are good tools to help make this happen.
