Hi Naveen,
I am originally from Hong Kong & infact my parents still live out there. $19.5K is ok, its not great, because the standard of living is high there.
An Flat/Apartment will cost you no less then $9-10K Minimum for a 500 Square Foot, if you are lucky. Unless you go at the end of the town or far away, then you might be able to get it around 7K, Again its very small.
Since you have a kid, depending on how old your child is, if you plan to send your kid to school, it is also expensive, it can range any where from 4K-50K per month, of course there are Government schools, which are less then $1K per month.
You won't need a car there, as public transportation is fantastic.
Do you know where you will be working? I mean which Island & area (Hong Kong Side) or Kowloon Side, is it a trading company?
Also another note, if you are going to work for an Indian company there, the Chances of you getting raise in your salary are there, but not like the US.
Also, be prepared to work long hours including saturdays.
I am not trying to discourage you, but I would negotiate for $25K + 6K for Flat.
Figure out what you would make here & ask the same salary there, because even the taxes are 16% there FLAT, There are expenses there. Example High Rent, Transportation, Food etc...
Good Luck. Ashish
