The San Diego World Affairs Council, founded in 1954, is dedicated to serving the citizens of San Diego by providing educational programs and activities focusing upon international relations, economics, politics and the culture of people in foreign countries. The dissemination of information about world events and their impact upon the United States foreign policy is recognized by the Council as necessary for the creation of a community that thinks globally. We are a member of the World Affairs Council of America, which consists of 86 councils across the United States.

Biography:
Ambassador Sen is one of India?s most distinguished diplomats. He was the first Indian to serve as ambassador to three of the P5 countries- Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States- and to four of the G8 capitals. In Russia and Germany he served during times of transition and turmoil, as India?s first ambassador to Moscow after the collapse of the USSR and as the Ambassador to Germany during the reunification. .He also served as Ambassador to Mexico from September 1991 to August of 1992.

He has participated in numerous summit meetings, such as the United Nations, Commonwealth, Non-Aligned Movement, Six Nation Five Continent Peace Initiative, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, IAEA and G-15 forums. He has also played an integral part in over 160 bilateral summit meetings. In addition, Mr. Sen accepted many assignments, as Special Envoy of the Indian Prime Minister, to meet with neighboring leaders.

Ambassador Sen joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1966 and served until 1984. During this time he served in the Indian Missions in Moscow, San Francisco and in Dhaka. Ambassador Sen held positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, as well as served as Secretary to the Atomic Energy Commission of India.

Ambassador Sen served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs from July 1984 to December of 1985. Thereafter, as Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister of India fro January 1986 to July 1991 . He was responsible for Foreign Affairs, Defense and Science and Technology.

Ambassador Sen is married and has one daughter.

He assumed charge as Ambassador of India to the United States in August of 2004.
