Its a HUGE! scam - I don't know about others, but I have been approached by desi's in super markets like albertsons and even at Barnes and Noble - so much so - now if I see a desi in any of these places - I would go the other way.
I was curious at first - and went to couple of their 1st time meetings - they try to grind you with this weird concept. For the newbie's - here's how it starts: 1. First they start by a nice hello - inquire about you - if you are new - you'd be suprised at how warm they are!
2. Then they say lets exchange tel #'s - you do it - hoping to gain a new desi friend - (s)he/ does it trying to gain business. 3. They call - usually with 3-4 days - before you forgot about the little 'meeting' you had.
4. after few pleasantries - (s)he/ will ask you about a business offer - they have - the funniest part is that ALL of them use the same lingo - its goes somewhat like this - "I am starting a new business in LA - and I was wondering if you could be a part of our team"
5. If you accept the invitation to go to their orientation meeting - you will find that there is a pack of wolves waiting to hunt - and you are thier prey! - it usually happens at someone's house - they provide snacks and create a sort of party environment (they try so hard -yet! you know its not a party).
6. One or couple of them has some plastic white board - does some sort of presentation - and how one of them is 'very close' to being a millionaire (in their dreams ofcourse) - and that you could also become a millionaire as soon as you "recruit" few hundred others etc.. 7. Then they ask to join them - to pay up - I think last time I checked it was around $250 or so - that's the first time - you got to buy stuff from their website to gain points or go up in ranks etc..its crazy!
The funny part is once my friend (who was bugged enough by these fellows) said take the damn $250 - and stop hassling me - but no! they said - we don't charity - if you join, you have to "recruit" people - and friend showed the finger ofcourse.
I write this - because, this scam needs to be stopped - the mostly hurtful part is NOT the money - I don't deny the fact that $250 is a good amount of money - but hey! an average desi - who lived for 2-3yrs in US can easily shell that out - but real stupid part is that they "steal" the opportunity to make new friends - you see a desi - you question yourself - what would happen if I say hello? - is he/she another quixtar agent? - and that sucks!.
quixtar, Amway, britt worldwide - all these are SCAMS! - beware - and don't get caught - If you want to make millions - there are multiple ways - earn money for couple of years, invest wisely or pool it in and start a traditional or internet business - the later only if know what you are doing - but these pyramid scams get you no where - that's my 2 cents.
search for - quixtar+scam in google - you will find interesting stuff.

I moved from LA around a year ago. There, desies used to get scared if any unknown desi smiled at them in any public place...
I was in front of a road called Vermont Dr, and a desi guy came to me and asked if I know where the Vermont Dr was... He said he is doing MBA from some big uni in Boston and was there to do market research for his new business... he would have gone on and on, but fortunately, I had exam after some time and I had to leave. I just gave him my email addr and not the cell no. (Best option...) He was a non-techie and did not have access to internet... So, he did not contact me after that... (Donno if emails went to my junk folder...)

So right! I was almost caught up in this thing. I knew this pyramid business was bullshit having known about Amway etc. It was later that I realised that this Quixtar thing is the same. I researched on google about this. You will be amazed at what I found! NBC Dateline did a documentary on this thing.
Check these out: http://www.amquix.info/ http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4375477/ http://www.amquix.info/dateline/dateline.html
In this document from Quixtar's website, search for 115: https://www.quixtar.com/Documents/IWOV/VIS/010-EN/PDFs_Redstar90104/IBO_Support/Registration/LA1037H_Registration.pdf
Cheers!

Have you guys thought about the following?
1) Calculate the amount of time and money that you have spent overall in your entire life for your education starting(atleast) from your college, masters, PhDs and post-doc etc...etc.. ? How much have you spent in total and how many years have to spent educating yourself ? Match it with the amount of money you earn in corporate world and how much stable your job is? Almost upto 25 yrs of age or close to 30 yrs of age people get educated in colleges and school! why? If people don?t get jobs they go back to education again! why?
2) All these years you had been studying hard for a piece of paper called ?professional degree certificate? so that some company will consider you for a job when you apply right? Does the university or college where you educated guarantee you a life long well paying job for the good GPA that you got from them? Hey! they took all the tution fee from you and paid salary to their professors. They get tution fee from millions of students and give them a piece of paper called ?degree certificate? at the end of it. Didn?t you prove yourself and your smartness and your worth while in college with good GPA? Why a job is not ready for you waiting for you to join, why should you search a new job by applying one company after another? After getting your degree does the college really care about you whether you got a good job? Isn?t college education a SCAM for the amount of money and time you spent there?
3) Once you get a job, aren?t you putting time every single day to make money for you and your family by selling your skill every single day and every single month? Shouldn?t you be getting a very good position based on your GPA and hardwork that you have done so far? Even after seeing you work for one full year why is your boss asking you to fill-up self appraisal? Doesn?t he/she know how hard you worked and how well you worked for the entire year? Why should you write up your own self appraisal for salary increment? And then on top of that you need to justify why you are worth giving a pay raise? Your boss?s entire goal is to keep your salary low and pay good enough so that you don?t quit when they need you (the company also can continue to make profits by keeping expenses low!) and your goal in your entire life is to keep fighting for a better salary. Isn?t this a SCAM?
4) Does your company promise to keep you in the job for the rest of your life since you have home loan to pay back or kid?s education to fund or family?s money need in India or family?s medical situation in India? Are they concerned about your well being before firing you or laying you off? Why don?t they do that? Isn?t this a SCAM?
For those of you who are already in a big SCAM as mentioned above, it is tough for you to understand what a blessing the QUIXTAR opportunity is. You have a choice either to stay broke for the rest of you life complaining about your job or dreaming of doing something on your own or else take charge of your life to create a great life for yourself. Come join us.
